Continuing its trend of new smartphone launches, HMD Global recently announced the Nokia 8.1, also known as the X7 in Western markets. According to the company, the phone will be launched around mid-December this year.

The phone will come with a 6.18-inch 1080p display, surrounded by a metal and glass build that is common with newer smartphones nowadays. Running Android 9 on the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, backed by 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of internal storage. Powering the phone is a relatively large 3500 mAh battery. Additionally, you get a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C charging port, and a fast-charge feature as well.

The phone is impressive in the imaging department, as the front houses a 20-megapixel selfie camera, which is complemented by a dual camera set-up on the back, featuring 12 and 13-megapixel lenses. The 81 ships in three colors, with blue & silver, copper & steel, as well as iron & steel combinations.

The phone is also part of the Android One program, which ensures security and software updates for at least three years.

  • Hi – thanks for sharing this informative article. I am looking to upgrade my current phone, and have been considering a Sony Experia, but this Nokia looks as though it might fit the bill. The 20 megapixel camera certainly grabbed my attention. The different colours are interesting, I will have to check out the copper and steel option, I have never seen anything like that before. All the best, Diane

    • Thanks for checking out the article. The new nokia phones are great for the money, and get regular security software updates.

  • Nokia, this makes me reminisce about years long gone.  I believe one of my first cell phones was a Nokia.  Yet, I didn’t realize they were still making cell phones.    It is nice to see that the company has not given up and has produced what sounds like a nice product.     Do you know how long the battery will last?

    • Hi Sondra. A typical smartphone battery lasts around a day’s worth of use, so I’d wager that this can last a day or two and maybe evem more with basic telephonic use.

  • Thank you for sharing with us this great post on Nokia 8.1 phone. I am the lover of Nokia phone since I was young. My first phone was from Nokia too and it was very impressive.

Nokia 8.1 phone seems to be very powerful and I wonder how much it will be costing when it will be launched.

    • If I’m not mistaken it will cost around 300-400 bucks. Definitely less than the thousand dollar flagships we’ve been seeing.
